A Pattern Maker creates the templates used to cut and assemble garments. They translate a designer’s concept into accurate patterns, test fit and movement through sample garments, and refine patterns so production teams can manufacture consistent, high-quality apparel.

Key Responsibilities

Interpret design sketches and product specifications
Draft patterns by hand or using pattern design software
Create initial pattern blocks and size sets
Develop sample patterns for prototypes
Collaborate with designers and sample makers on construction details
Run fit sessions and capture adjustment notes
Update patterns based on fit and wear feedback
Grade patterns across sizes to maintain proportion and fit
Add clear pattern markings, notches, grain lines, and seam allowances
